The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has closed its probe into PayPal’s stablecoin project, PYUSD, marking a regulatory win for the payments giant. No enforcement action was taken, according to a February disclosure in PayPal’s 10-Q filing.

Regulatory scrutiny began in November 2023 when the SEC requested documents about PYUSD’s structure and operations. Such inquiries typically serve as fact-finding missions rather than precursors to penalties. The quiet resolution removes a potential obstacle for PayPal’s crypto ambitions.

While PYUSD’s market share remains modest, the regulatory clarity could accelerate adoption. PayPal continues forging partnerships to expand the stablecoin’s utility across its 426 million active accounts and merchant network.
